Located in Pickens, SC, just a stone’s throw away from North Carolina and Georgia, is one of the newest facilities dedicated to the preservation and education of the public of this rare breed. There are nearly 5000 Colonial Spanish Horses in existence today that are registered in 14 different registries.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT:

To reintroduce this versatile breed back into the Southern United States, where it has been documented that the local Indians had maintained herds of these horses before being required by the United States Government to take up residence on the reservations provided for them in Oklahoma, many enduring the infamous "Trail of Tears". A few Indians were allowed to bring these horses with them, continuing the original bloodlines.

Our goal is to educate the local community of their existence and raise awareness of the history of these phenomenal little horses and the hardships they endured. Our farm is developing a small breeding program to assist with the preservation effort by producing a few quality foals each year. We also plan to involve local youth groups and school children in an effort to raise interest in the history of the local community using these horses as center stage.

The Colonial Spanish Horse has played a major role in developing many of the modern American breeds recognized today. The time has come to give credit where credit is due and acknowledge that most gaited horses are descendents of these horses; they were the ones to put the "cow" in cowhorse; and they provided the many colors found in the color breeds of today.
